How To Run An Auction/Raffle

As I have limited computer time I am posting what to do here..

***UPDATE***
I have added some Q&A about the appeal here.
If you have got your post up then please add it as a comment to the master list post HERE and I will add it to the list.
Thanks!

First you need to decide what you are going to donate, please make sure that it is something you are willing to ship internationally. Next, get some good photos of the items, make them look attractive, you don’t need a fancy camera just make sure they are a spot with good natural lighting.

Put up your blog post, I will try to put up a post later today on how to add the button to your blog, basically copy the code in the box under the paste the html into the spot where you add your buttons. I will add the badge to the email anyway.

Email me the link to your BLOG POST. As they come in I will feature some and then put all of them on the master list. The master list will go up on the 18th March and I will keep adding to it. I don’t think it matters if you don’t have much of a following on your blog, hopefully people that are interested will work their way through the list. Once you have your post up, promote the heck out of it, get friends and family involved, use twitter, FB any way you can think of. If Martha Stewart is your aunt, get her involved too (ha! wishful thinking!).

You are bidding for this beautiful handmade quilt. The quilt was hand sewn by myself and made from fabric that I bought back from my trip to Japan. It is 1m x 1.2m.

Bids are to be made in US$
Starting bid is $30
To make a bid leave a comment on this post, with your bid amount, it must be higher than the previous comment. You must also leave a valid email address, you can write the address in the format of mymailname ‘at’ hotmail ‘dot’ com
If you make a mistake or forget to add you email address please delete the first post and re-write it.
Once the auction has closed the winning bidder will be announced and contacted, the winner must make the payment and send proof of payment within 48 hours. If proof of payment is not made within 48 hours then the item will go to the second highest bidder. The donation must be paid to Global Giving. (link to the site) For help with the donation you can refer to this post (http://jojoebi.blogspot.com/2011/03/how-to-make-donation.html)
The giveaway / raffle / auction is being held on this blog, in cooperation with a
Bit of This and a Bit of That. We are in no way affiliated with global giving, that's just our chosen method of getting funds safely to the affected area.

Things to consider...
Sell the item, give details of what is is as if you were putting it up for sale.
The auction will close 26th March, you decide the time.
Make sure in your post you set a clear closing time - with the time zone, don’t assume everyone lives in your time zone :o)
You need to contact the winning bidder and then wait for the confirmation of payment before sending out the winning item. Post the winning bidders name and leave a comment on the auction post confirming that the auction has closed.
When the you have had confirmation, email me with the amount of money raised so I can tot up the total at the end.
I recommend turning comment moderation off if you use it, so that bidders can see what the previous bid is immediately.
Decide which currency you will use for the auction.

I think that is it, although I am bound to have forgotten something. There have been people asking about running a FB auction, to be honest I have no idea how to set that up. I imagine you need to set up a page so that it is visiable to everyone. If anyone can give a step by step account of how to do it that would be great.

  2. I have a question that I wish anybody will answer to.
What kind of "proof of payment" is valid? Is it OK if the bid winner forwards us the e-mail receipt which s/he received from Global Giving ? Or the proof should be sent by fax?? (I do not have fax, though.)

  3. an email with the receipt is enough, for the auction they can forward a copy of the receipt, for a raffle the number is enough, we have to take it that they are honest!
