Playdoh recipe...

Here is my playdoh recipe requested. I have tried lots of the playdoh recipes out there but this is, by far, my favourite and if you store it in an airtight container or zip-locked bag it will keep for ages. 

I also actually halve this amount since we only have one kid playing with it. If you leave it out, it will dry up, so once you have done playing with it, put it in a ziplock bag.

1 cup water
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1/2 cup salt
1 tbsp cream of tartar (this is the preservative)
food colouring
1 cup flour

Put all the ingredients except the flour into a saucepan and heat until warm, stir to mix the ingredients well.
Remove from the heat and add the flour, stir until it forms a ball then tip it out onto the work surface. Leave it to cool, whilst it is cooling, mix up the next batch.
Once it has cooled you need to knead it until smooth.

For those in Japan, I used the food colour from the supermarket, it is in a tiny jar and powder, not liquid, I used about 1/3 teaspoon to make the playdoh in the last post, it is really strong and much more vibrant than the food colour from home.

    I made some different playdough a while back but it gets very sticky and needs more flour adding each time we use it, so I was on the look-out for a new recipe. Perfect timing!

  2. Thanks for sharing this recipe. Whenever I tried to make some play dough, it was never very good and it would usually get moldy quickly. I guess it's the cream of tartar that I was missing. I will give your recipe a try.

  5. I made this but my dough was smooth like frosting. So i added a whole cup more of flour a little at a time until it became dough. I stored it in the fridge last night and then today its really sticky and mushy again!!! Please help

    1. I'm not sure what to suggest, it's always worked fine for me. In the summer I sometimes add a bit more flour because of the humidity here.
