Giveaway Day - CLOSED

Today is the Sew Mama Sew giveaway day, twice a year, blogs from all over the blogosphere join together and give stuff away. And so I will be giving the winner a choice of 3 of my PDF sewing patterns of their choice. There will be lots of other bloggers joining in so remember to pop over to the Sew Mama Sew blog and check out the links.

AND

Everyone is a winner because I have made this free ninjabread men felt ornament pattern PDF download, which was inspired by the ninjabread cookie cutters we received last Christmas.

  1. I wish I had a really wack answer for this but nothing comes to my mind.

The strangest choice was probably some sausages just because it seems so unbirthday like not that I don`t like sausages.

  2. When I turned 16, I received a log for my birthday. A very large, heavy log. It had been carefully hollowed out and screwed back together. I was also handed a screwdriver to unwrap it. Inside was a nice new hairbrush. I guess it was the wrapping rather than the present which was strangest / most unusual / funniest... but it otherwise fulfilled all those categories, and was definitely the most memorable birthday present I ever received.

  51. Oooh. Patterns! :)

My strangest birthday gift was the corner of a garage. Really. I was 14 and had asked my parents for a shed for my birthday. I craved some separate 'me' space. They didn't get me a shed but my dad did partition off the back corner of the garage giving me my own little cubby about 6' square. I loved it and even had friends come over and sleep in it with me.

In retrospect I must have had REALLY good friends back then...

  60. What a lovely giveaway! I love your patterns!!

You know, I've been thinking all day, trying to come up with the oddest present I've ever received and I just can't think of one. So, I thought I'd tell you one that I've given. Last year, for my husbands birthday, I 'painted' a likeness of him out of chocolate (white, milk, and dark) and put it on the top of the cake. I have to say, I was very proud of myself :-)

I have not received any funny gifts, at least I do not remember getting any, but I do remember being really embarrassed that my mother sent my 1st grade teacher a butter dish as a present. Actually I think she liked it, but as a five year old, I thought it extremely odd!

  62. I got some weird fish to hang on my wall once. I'm not sure what that person was thinking. I don't go fishing. I don't collect fish. I don't get it. But it was unusual and strange enough for me to remember, so that's gotta count for something right?

  63. Well, it isn't my story but my mother-in laws and it is funny. My mother in law mentioned to my father in-law that she had always wanted to learn to play piano as a passing comment one day in March. On Christmas morning she walked into the living room to find a piano with a big bow on it. My father in-law had bought her a piano so she could learn to play. My MIL also once mentioned she always wanted to learn to paint and so for Christmas she was given an easel and full set of oil paints and brushes. Need less to say she quickly learned to keep her one off ideas to herself, and she made them take the piano back.

  75. Oh wow - partterny goodness :)

Weirdest birthday gifts come from my brother. He is so bad at giving gifts - I love it. It's become a tradition - his gifts are by far the most random things and sometimes highly inappropriate - teehee.

He gave my hubs and I a boardgame for "us" time, not knowing that it needs at least 3 players. Of all the random gifts that one just had us in stitches.

Thank you for a great giveaway.

  121. When I was younger I collected pandas. I had over 300 of them. Well, my husband (now ex-husband) gave me a raccoon firgurine and said Happy Birthday. He didn't realize that a raccoon was different from a panda. Duh...

  122. When I turned 31 my 6 yr old daughter decorated three canvas totes for my gift. On them she wrote "31" all over them and in the middle it said "MOM IS...". She of course expected me to use them all the time along with my normal collection of reusable bags. And as any good mom would do... I did, and still use them today.

  126. Love the ninjas!
Really nothing memorable from my birthday...my grandpa wrapped up a stick for christmas one year when I was about 8 or 10 and must have been a fussy kid. I remember thinking maybe it was going to be a kaleidoscope and being so sad/confused that I started to cry when I opened it.

  127. I love that ninjabread man tutorial! Thanks!

The stranges gifth that comes to mind was really sort of thoughtful. I really wanted a cat as child and my parents wouldn't let me have (another) one. So, my friend gave me a cardboard cut-out gray tiger cat.

I'm having a hard time thinking of an unusual birthday gift, but this year my husband got me an iPad and hid it in the refrigerator so I would find it when I went to make dinner!
