I wish I had a really wack answer for this but nothing comes to my mind.
ReplyDeleteThe strangest choice was probably some sausages just because it seems so unbirthday like not that I don`t like sausages.

When I turned 16, I received a log for my birthday. A very large, heavy log. It had been carefully hollowed out and screwed back together. I was also handed a screwdriver to unwrap it. Inside was a nice new hairbrush. I guess it was the wrapping rather than the present which was strangest / most unusual / funniest... but it otherwise fulfilled all those categories, and was definitely the most memorable birthday present I ever received.

In 2008 we were stationed in Minot ND. My birthday i mid May and I woke to an unusual cover of new snow! J s t a r h @ g m a i l. C o m
ReplyDeleteI'm not entering Jo - because I can't sew but Schelle's comment made me laugh. That is fantastic. Must remember this. Shou would love to undo a log and would probably be excited enough just at that :)
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate the kind of topics you post here Great blog and I hope to see more posts in the future from you....keep it on
ReplyDeleteNot unusual to me but others may consider it so! My husband gave me two cows one Christmas! Red Polls if you're interested!
ReplyDeleteThe strangest b-day present I ever got was a roll of toilet paper.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could explain it to you, but I have no idea why my father chose this present for me. I don't THINK I was into telling tall tales at that time..... :-P
hmmm.. funniest birthday gift - my husband bought me a hot water bottle - that smelled like butt - I made such a gross face when I opened it right as a picture was taken . terrible photo. http://thecraftingfiend.blogspot.com/2011/12/sew-mama-sew-giveaway-day.html

I can't think of a birthday present, but the strangest Christmas present I ever received was a rice cooker from my boyfriend the first Christmas together. I didn't even know what a rice cooker was, and I know I looked at him like he had two heads when I opened it. It's been 4 years, and I use it probably every other day! Thanks for the giveaway! robyn(dot)geddes(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeletefor my 21st birthday, my brother gave me a tshirt from my university bookstore. only trouble was, it was a size 2T. yeah. i had no baby, wasn't pregnant, wasn't dating. really, bro? he said it was the only thing he could afford and that i should hold on to it until i needed it. verry funny.
ReplyDeleteThe strangest thing I ever got was a S&W can of peaches. Back in the day, there was a commercial that I guess was funny about S&W.
ReplyDeleteKritta22@hotmail.com
I received a porcelain deviled egg holder with a giant porcelain Easter bunny standing up in the center.
ReplyDeleteNo idea... I suspect it was a re-gift. :)
Thanks so much. Fun entry!
Probably the Dyson Vaccum cleaner I got for my birthday one year. My brother was horrified when my parents told him what they'd bought me but I was over the moon!
ReplyDeleteStrange....hmmmm....I'm usually very practical and ask for things I need, like MORE fabric of course! ;) I have gotten tires, a vacuum and dinner out with the hubs too though!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the fun!

ReplyDeletea bushel of plums, I kid you not. It was a new boyfriend in college...needless to say that relationship didn't last!
ReplyDeleteThe strangest birthday gift I ever received was a modesty book from step-grandmother. I have never been particularly immodest, so I am not exactly sure what she was getting at!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the ninja ornament! Thanks!
The strangest birthday present I have ever received was a bicycle odometer mainly because it a) came out of left field, b) I don't own a bicycle, haven't since I was a kid...
ReplyDeletessparrowinflight at gmail dot com
Not really funny or unusual, but I'd have to say my oldest daughter. She was born the day after my birthday.
ReplyDeleteThe strangest I received was a gag gift bag that included a whoopie cushion. Seriously?!?! Weird.
ReplyDeletea ham cake. yes, really, cake made out of ham. it was disgustingly fabulous!
ReplyDeletethanks for the giveaway!
Thank you for the felt ninja tuturial! So cute! The most unusual birthday gift I received was a cooler full of live crab. They were destined to be dinner, but it was still quite a surprise to open the lid and see them snapping at me. :)

ReplyDeleteHaha, love the ninja ornaments!
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed on the pattern winning!
The funniest birthday present I ever got was my dog Emma. She's a hoot.
ReplyDeleteA 'friend' gave me a figurine of an angel holding a cat.
ReplyDeleteI'm NOT a cat person. I don't mind them, they're just not for me.
Very strange, because she knew!
Thanks for the opportunity!
Last year I received a bow and this year a new helmet and an axe. We are doing Live Acted Role Playing, so I loved all of it!
ReplyDeleteMy then 10 year old daughter made me a surprise birthday cake, and when she removed it from the pan, it cracked. Her solution? Stuff the hole full of big jaw breakers. It was a good cake though - as long as you avoided the jawbreakers!
ReplyDeleteThe strangest Christmas gift I got was a bottle of high octane booster for cars. My brother gave it to me because our car had been having issues. It was a bit of a gag gift, but I didn't realize that until later. At the time, I was confused and a bit put out that he would give me something like that for Christmas. :)
ReplyDeleteThe most unusual present I ever recieved was an opened and half eaten packet of sweets. . which I recieved every year for 7 years from a particular friend! I never did figure out why. . I think she just got hungry and then carried it on!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway and awesome Ninja pattern!
Sarah @ http://kiwigetscrafty.blogspot.com
Honestly I don't think I've every gotten a really strange birthday post. The oddest thing maybe an ex who hunted to find a place that would make me a peanut butter cookie cake.
ReplyDeletetreegold and beegold @gmail.com
When we were kids, my little brother once gave me two batteries in an empty kleenex box. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThe log/hairbrush is hilarious. :) I honestly don't think I've ever gotten something unusual...esp since my family counts on me to tell them *exactly* what I want for any occasion. :) Thanks for the ninja pattern...love it! My 3 year old girl is into wearing "ninja in a tutu" outfits lately...she would love these ornaments.
ReplyDeletesistermoon@gmail.com
The strangest gift? My grandmother gave me a 2T snowflake sweater. Problem? I was 17. :) Amytheamazing at yahoo dot com.
ReplyDeleteFun patterns! The strangest gift(s) I have received were: a pair of scissors, a box of crayons, a black light, a Taylor Swift Platinum CD, a carrot, and Clear Eyes eye drops. These were all in reference to the gift I later received, my engagement ring. They were for cut, color, luminescence, type of metal, carat, and clarity of the diamond. He's so clever. :)
ReplyDeleteI feel a bit uneasy sharing my email in a blog comments section...I'm not a "no reply blogger" so you should be able to have my email address through the way I'm currently logged in.
ReplyDeleteMy brother gave me a candy bar, 100,000 Grand. We used to joke that we'd give each other 100,000 grand (real money) if we could, and one birthday he did!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
j_poshusta@yahoo.com
ninjabread man....HILARIOUS!! :) Strangest gift at the time was a breadmaker from a guy I was dating. It was our first Christmas...he continues to surprise me every year...12 yrs later :) Thanks for the chance..happy giveaway!
ReplyDeletesobellamom(at)gmail(dot)com
heavy question. in 2009 i started Mutterschutzurlaub (the free time bfore the birth of my child) on my birthday, so that was my greatest present.
ReplyDeleteThis is not particularly strange, but when I was 16 my boyfriend broke up with me just before my birthday. And then still gave me a present... a bracelet engraved with my name... he obviously bought it before we broke up and couldn't very well pass it along to the next girl with my name on it! hramer(at) comcast (dot) net
ReplyDeleteOnce my aunt gave me a box of tampons for Christmas. I was so embarrassed and sad because I didn't even have my periods yet. Turns out she was just re-using the box and there was make up inside. :p
ReplyDeleteAnd OMG I love the ninja gingerbread men. I was going to make an ornament for my brother because it's his first Christmas in their new apartment. he will LOVE this!
My teenage daughter once gave me a bra for my birthday which I thought was a very strange gift! I later found out her dad gave her money to buy me a gift and she bought a new bra for herself and there was a buy one get one free offer on!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete@01592_katie
My sister gave me the same book 3 years in a row, and had no clue she'd done it. I never told her because she's so great anyways.
ReplyDeletemapdot{at}gmail{dot}com
A card that had a pig butt on it. On the inside it read, "I like PIG butts and I cannot lie." :)
ReplyDeleteThe strangest thing I ever got for my birthday way a cake with a Barbie on top that to me looked like a stripper....and it was for my 30th birthday...my inlaws version of a Barbie cake. I didn't even laugh! I had no idea what it meant! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeletenancebagance at yahoo dot ca
My parents got me a CareBear...when I was in college! Lol. It was my nickname at the time so it made sense and brightened up my dorm room...but I bet most other people to get that gift that year were about 1/3 of my age!
ReplyDeleteOooh. Patterns! :)
ReplyDeleteMy strangest birthday gift was the corner of a garage. Really. I was 14 and had asked my parents for a shed for my birthday. I craved some separate 'me' space. They didn't get me a shed but my dad did partition off the back corner of the garage giving me my own little cubby about 6' square. I loved it and even had friends come over and sleep in it with me.
In retrospect I must have had REALLY good friends back then...
A toilet seat. OK,it was a nice oak one, but still I got a toilet seat for my birthday! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMy strangest gift ever was a frying pan. I absolutely hate to cook and already owned a frying pan but supposedly this was some special frying pan. Yuck!
ReplyDeletemomik97(at) aol (dot) com
Wow... love your patterns. My son would LOVE one of those backpacks!
ReplyDeleteBirthday experience... best was when I was a kid & my parents surprised me with a McDonalds party. It was so surprising b/c of the $ involved in having a party that wasn't at home.
Um, that ninja ornament is freakin' adorable. I had to become a follower just for the reason of the ornament.
ReplyDeleteHmmm.....weirdest thing? My friend sent me granny panties and denture cream when I turned 30. She thought she was clever until I sent it back to her when she turned 30.
ReplyDeleteI received a painted set of dental imprints. They were my friends. He painted "Happy Birthday" on them!
ReplyDeleteA Noisy Blue stuffed frog - there was an annoying frog on the TV a few years back that advertised ring tones including one that he stared in where he screeched. It made my skin crawl and made me feel homicidal. A friend gave me the noisy stuffed toy as a joke. Worst gift ever spent the whole day wanting to kill anyone who turned it on.

ReplyDeleteWhen I turned 10, an elderly couple my family knew gave me an aluminum pineapple dish, signed on the back by the artist. I sort of wanted a Barbie, but you know, I still have that dish...more than a few decades later. LOL!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely giveaway! I love your patterns!!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I've been thinking all day, trying to come up with the oddest present I've ever received and I just can't think of one. So, I thought I'd tell you one that I've given. Last year, for my husbands birthday, I 'painted' a likeness of him out of chocolate (white, milk, and dark) and put it on the top of the cake. I have to say, I was very proud of myself :-)
Here is the post:

I like the ninja ornament, cute!
ReplyDeleteI have not received any funny gifts, at least I do not remember getting any, but I do remember being really embarrassed that my mother sent my 1st grade teacher a butter dish as a present. Actually I think she liked it, but as a five year old, I thought it extremely odd!
I got some weird fish to hang on my wall once. I'm not sure what that person was thinking. I don't go fishing. I don't collect fish. I don't get it. But it was unusual and strange enough for me to remember, so that's gotta count for something right?
ReplyDeleteWell, it isn't my story but my mother-in laws and it is funny. My mother in law mentioned to my father in-law that she had always wanted to learn to play piano as a passing comment one day in March. On Christmas morning she walked into the living room to find a piano with a big bow on it. My father in-law had bought her a piano so she could learn to play. My MIL also once mentioned she always wanted to learn to paint and so for Christmas she was given an easel and full set of oil paints and brushes. Need less to say she quickly learned to keep her one off ideas to herself, and she made them take the piano back.
ReplyDeletethanks for the giveaway.

I can't really think of anything strange that I have received for my birthday, but then maybe I am strange. ;0)
ReplyDeleteIt was a gift I received from my grandpa on my 16th birthday. We were playing a white elephant game at my family party, and he took that to mean that he should bring a white elephant for my birthday gift as well. So, I received an ugly, broken lamp for my 16th birthday. He was laughing and laughing and I was having a hard time keeping from crying !
ReplyDeleteMy brother gave me a Winnie-the-Pooh Duplo set for my 26th birthday. He crossed out the dash between the ages 2-6 so that it became ages 26. I love the thought and effort that went into it. I was very into Winnie-the-Pooh at the time so it was a great gift and really made me smile.
ReplyDeletemy husband gave me an answering phone in the 80's. i remember being put out because i didn't really care if i missed a call. he really got it for himself.
ReplyDeletelovebirrdmom at gmail dot com
Always practical gifts, nothing unusual...
ReplyDeleteOh wow - partterny goodness :)
ReplyDeleteWeirdest birthday gifts come from my brother. He is so bad at giving gifts - I love it. It's become a tradition - his gifts are by far the most random things and sometimes highly inappropriate - teehee.
He gave my hubs and I a boardgame for "us" time, not knowing that it needs at least 3 players. Of all the random gifts that one just had us in stitches.
Thank you for a great giveaway.

The only thing I can think of is the one time my highschool boyfriends' mom bought me an old lady style nightgown for christmas--and it was about 3 sizes too big!
ReplyDeleteA gigantic box mailed to me (I could easily have fit inside, with maybe another person). It had a pen that lit up on the writing end, all sorts of fun bits and things and the pies de resistance was a glow in the dark Hoberman sphere. Very cool things.
ReplyDeleteCheers, playamerca(at)gmail(dot)com
Great giveaway, and those ninjabread men are awesome! So, I think my MIL must think I am a 70 yo woman b/c for my last bday she bought my some, ahem, VERY old lady-like clothes that were 2 sizes to big. Nothing against the clothes, but I am in my 30s and try to be somewhat stylish. Maybe she got confused? Anyway, I thanked her nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteNot for my birthday, but for our wedding we received a very large stuffed cat! No one is really sure of the purpose. Maybe they thought we needed a pet! Amy @ gasudimack(at)sbcglobal(dot)net

Ine of the mgrs at our TJ Maxx know me as the anti-cat lady because I return so much cat stuff!

When I turned 31 my 6 yr old daughter decorated three canvas totes for my gift. On them she wrote "31" all over them and in the middle it said "MOM IS...". ReplyDeleteReally nothing memorable from my birthday...my grandpa wrapped up a stick for christmas one year when I was about 8 or 10 and must have been a fussy kid. I remember thinking maybe it was going to be a kaleidoscope and being so sad/confused that I started to cry when I opened it.
I love that ninjabread man tutorial! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe stranges gifth that comes to mind was really sort of thoughtful. I really wanted a cat as child and my parents wouldn't let me have (another) one. So, my friend gave me a cardboard cut-out gray tiger cat.
